I remember a film I saw once (I think it was "Labyrinth", 1986?) which has the camera constantly zooming out at the very end of the movie. The camera shows the planet, the galaxy, a large number of galaxies and finally some sort of orb that contains all these galaxies. Thereafter you notice there is not just one orb, but three orbs being held together by a creature twisting them around in his palm, then this character being controlled by wires like a marionet.

We search hopefully for different life-forms with SETI@Home in our own universe, but what if the intelligent life-form does not exist in the same universe, but is controlling it, or has even *created* it as an experiment. What if *we* are (just) (the) subject(s) of that experiment?

And then we get very different questions to "the answer to life and everything". If our universe is already controlled by some kind of "boot-cycle", externally applicable, what is outside our universe/orb? Is that a bigger universe or is it parallel? Does that have life-cycles and is that controlled? What does "infinity" really mean and is infinity really the end, the beginning, inconclusive or does infinity not really exist?
